As of this year, more than 300 patrol vehicles and cars fitted with state of the Art security gadgets have been donated to all the arms of security operatives in the state. During the early years of the administration, 100 patrol vans were
donated to the police and some good numbers to the Army, the Airforce and other security operatives. In March and September this year, another set of 100 patrol Hilux vans and cars were given to the police and six of such vehicles
and cars to the State Security Service (SSS) to enhance their joint security operations in parts of the state.
Making the presentation on behalf of the State Governor, Mr. Sullivan Chime at the Government House, Enugu, his Special Adviser on Security Matters, Mr. Richard Chime noted that the gesture was aimed at the sustenance of the status of Enugu
as one of the safest states in the country.
Mr. Chime
said that the Governor appreciated the efforts of the security agencies in
combating crime and criminality in the state and therefore urged them not to
relent. He expressed his hope that the vehicles would help the agencies in
their avowed determination to stamp out crimes in the state so that residents
of the state could sleep with their two eyes closed.
Responding on behalf of the other security chiefs, the Commander, Airforce Base, Enugu, Air Commodore Jacob Gbamwuan commended the state governor for maintaining a cordial relationship with all the security outfits in the state to ensure adequate security of lives and property which according to him had attracted a lot of people to the state.Air Commodore Gbamwuan assured that the gesture would go a long way towards maintaining the posture of the state as a reference point in terms of safety, adding that the vehicles would be used specifically for the purpose they were given.
Speaking in
separate interviews, the Garrison Commander, 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Enugu,
Brigadier General Isidore Edet and the Commandant Nigerian Security and Civil
Defence Corps, Enugu State Command, Mr. Nathaniel Ubong expressed hope that
with the inter-agency security already
in place, they would continue to achieve the objective of a crime-free
environment in the state thereby creating
avenues for more development of the state.
