Sports
development in Enugu State – Under the reign of Governor Chime to say the least
is very encouraging. The administration resuscitated the secondary school
sports abandoned more than twenty years ago in the state by past
administrations. The sporting festival which is now an annual event in the
state was designed to help fish out budding talents, promote grass root sports
and encourage school children in the state to take active part in sports.
In addition, facilities at the State Sports Council Headquarters are
being renovated and some sporting equipment provided. The Management Team
of Rangers International Football Club has been reconstituted and the team has continued
to improve on its performances in both National League and other continental
football competitions.
The State
invested heavily in the renovation of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium to secure
hosting right and successfully hosted the FIFA U-17 football competition in 2010.
Enugu is gradually gaining her past enviable glory in the field of
sports, thanks to the sports loving Chief Executive of the State, Barr.
Sullivan I. Chime.
