DEVELOPMENTAL STRIDES OF GOVERNOR SULLIVAN CHIME’S ADMINISTRATION IN ENUGU STATE: ROAD CONSTRUCTION [By Afam Okereke]

On road infrastructure development, the administration of governor Sullivan Chime embarked on aggressive state-wide urban roads and inter-local government rural roads rehabilitation and reconstruction.  Within the past six years the administration spent billions of naira in the rehabilitation/reconstruction of more than 340 kilometers urban roads in Enugu the State capital and Nsukka and above 245 kilometers of rural roads in parts of the state, with good drainage system, street light, bus shelter, pedestrian walkways and traffic control light at major road junctions.  

Perhaps one of the major landmark achievements of the Chime administration in road infrastructure development was the dualization of major urban roads including Ziks Avenue, Ogui Road, Agbani Road, Okpara Avenue , Presidential road and its extension, Akwata and the P&T twin bridge plus good number of streets within the state capital and Nsukka Urban.
More than six inter-local government rural roads are on-going in partnership with the benefiting council area chairmen in the state. They included the 52 kilometer Akpasha Ozalla-Agbogugu Ihe Owelli Mgbowo Awgu road the 29 kilometer Nkwo Nike Ugwuogo Nike, Neke Ikem in Isi Uzo, 44 kilometer Nkwo Nike Ugwogo Nike Ekwegbe Opi Junction in Nsukka, 9th Mile Eke Iwollo Oghe Olo Umulokpa, Nru-Orba as well as Echara Ofulonu and Eha Alumona UNN road among others.
